When "Mirror front camera" is enabled, selfie photos are correctly displayed in the gallery.
But when I share them through Whatsapp, they get upside down.
This issue won't happen if "Mirror front camera" is disabled.

Are they upside down when you send them to text or to email? If it only happens in one app, it may be the app's problem. They contacting them.
I guess you’re right, Richard, I’ve just tested and it doesn’t happen in text or email messages, only in Whatsapp. Thank you for your hint!
Turn off ‘Mirror’ front camera, solves problem. It’s a workaround until either Apple or WhatsApp take responsibility. I’ve also reported to wa, no response from wa.

No luck @samia31, I've reported the issue to Whatsapp, but doing that or nothing is the same.
The only workarounds I know at this point are:
1- edit the photo (rotate - save - rotate again - save) before sharing the selfie;
or
2- turn off photo/mirror image in the camera settings.
I am having the same problems since the iOS 17.4.1 update. Any photo sent from camera roll to WhatsApp is sent upside down with a black band at the bottom. Only by selecting the photos within WhatsApp and sending them that way, will they appear as normal.
Having the same issue since 17.4.1. Sending any photo from phone album to wa, goes upside down. Photo is correct in album, sends correctly if choose the same image from inside wa. Have tried turning off Settings/photo/format from heif to jpg and also turning off photo/mirror image. Wa is up to date. Really annoying. (iPhone 12Pro). Seems to be fine with Screen shots, happens with both forward facing and selfie camera. I have Portrait lock active most of time, tested, still goes upside down whether this is on or off. Any suggestions?
Anche io ho lo stesso problema con iPhone 14. All’improvviso 10 giorni fa ha cominciato a mandare i selfie upside down.

Another workaround: share the photos using any other gallery app.
Perhaps the stock gallery app is bugged…
Same thing here with iPhone 13: switching “mirror front camera@ either ON or OFF, the picture still goes upside down !!
I think iOS 17.5.1 fixed this issue.
Upgrade your operating system and make sure Whatsapp is updated too.
