Why do I keep getting this pop up on my Mac devices: Unable to Make Wi-Fi Calling- To enable Wi-Fi Calls on this account, contact carrier

Why do I keep receiving a pop-up randomly every 5 to 10 minutes on both my MacBook pros telling me that I am unable to make Wi-Fi calling? I have gone into my FaceTime on my MacBooks and I have selected calls from iPhone and when I try to select upgrade to Wi-Fi calling, it does not do anything. I have gone into my iPhone settings and to my cellular menu, and toggle on the option for Wi-Fi calling on this iPhone, but I continue to receive these pop-ups. What are they and how do I turn them off please?

Thank you.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

I decided to chat with apple support and I think we've fixed it.

On iPhone go to settings>FaceTime>you can be reached by FaceTime at... and activate your Apple ID.

When I clicked this button it bugged out at first but then it refreshed and it worked.

Then go to settings>phone> set "wifi calling" to ON and "calls on other devices" to ON

Then go back into your FaceTime settings and confirm everything is on.

Even though in my FaceTime settings there is still a button asking me to upgrade to wifi calling, all our tests seem to work and wifi calling has successfully been activated.

Hopefully even though that button in the FaceTime settings seems stuck in the past, I'll stop getting the popup because everything is working properly.

Hope this helps anyone else struggling with this issue.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

I called At&t. they think that it was because I was on a wifi network run by someone that wasn't at&t.

this seems ridiculous to me because we all use different wifi networks depending on where we are -- at home, or work, or at a cafe, etc. I shouldn't have to get this notification every time I connect to the internet in a new location. it made me think that they just don't know what to do and came up with a random explanation so that they could move on to helping the next customer.
