iPad heating with notes app and Apple Pencil

My iPad Pro M1 2020 get physically really hot when I take handwritten notes with the Apple Pencil. Does anyone know if this is only with the default notes app or with handwriting on the iPad in general? It starts fine, and then becomes hot as I write. The battery drains twice as fast and there starts to be a lot of lag behind the pencil. Memory issue?
