I can't open files in QT Movie format that I have recorded with Quick Time Player

I can't open files in QT Movie format that I have recorded with Quick Time Player.

I moved the file I recorded with Quick Time Player Version 10.5 (1184.2) from the Apple M2 Pro screen to a usb and then when I try to open this file with QT, the error it gives is : The file isn't compatible with QuickTime Player.

What is the solution for this issue?

The advise is to save the recording to the Desktop first, not external storage, for best reliability. When done, you may copy the file elsewhere if wanted.

If the recording is important (no chance to redo), then test beforehand with a short duration.

What is the file system of the external USB storage? E.g. NTFS may be read-only.

What size is the file? E.g. for a 0 KB file, there is nothing to do, as nothing was written.

For a full screen recording of significant duration, you should expect a pretty big file.
