ICloud downloads all files after Sonoma updating

Hi!

I read this article recently (https://eclecticlight.co/2023/10/25/macos-sonoma-has-changed-icloud-drive-radically/#:~:text=Summary,its%20entire%20contents%20from%20iCloud ). At the end of the article, the author states that "... If you're not prepared to turn Optimize Mac Storage on before upgrading to Sonoma, you may have to wait for all your files stored in iCloud Drive to be downloaded to your Mac.” Has someone already experienced this kind of problem?

Thanks!

Hi muguy!

Thank you again for your reply! I have only one copy of the files that are in iCloud Drive, not multiple copies as you asked. I have read some articles about Sonoma and iCloud Drive. One of them states as follows:

“Some who have upgraded early to Sonoma have reported that, although their Mac’s settings hadn’t changed, with Optimize Mac Storage turned off, their Macs have downloaded fresh copies of every file stored in iCloud Drive, sometimes taking several days to complete. In some cases, while their Mac has still been trying to complete that large sync, Time Machine has been unable to complete any backups, reporting that those files were still synchronising.”

So, I am asking if someone in this forum has experienced this issue with Sonoma.

Thanks!

I requested to download all my info from iCloud. My 2 laptops (m2 and m3) crash constantly trying to get files from iCloud.

I am waiting for a link to download my data and unable iCloud until it gets fixed.

you can do that via privacy.apple.com

I've been waiting for 13 days. Support says that it can take 14 days...

I hope it helps

Hi muguy!

I appreciate your answer, but it was not helpfull. I have my files on icloud drive and a copy on my mac. The question is about the article I read. It seems that there is a bug in the sonoma that will download all files from iCloud drive, even if the files are already in you mac, if you choose the option of not optimizing your Mac. I would like to know if someone already had this problem and, if so, a possible fix.

Thanks!

Yes. Anything in the iCloud Drive folder is already on your Mac and resides on your Mac and in iCloud; the documents are synchronized.

not really sure what you mean. Yes, anything in iCloud will download to your Mac by design. Are you saying you have multiple copies?

Hi dmonzon,

Yes, it helped a lot! Thank you! Maybe it's time to think about using another sync app. The problems with iCloud Drive are longstanding and Apple appears not to be concerned about them. I was hoping that Sonoma would fix the iCloud Drive bugs, but it looks like I was wrong. It's a long time to have to wait 14 days for a link to retrieve files from iCloud Drive. Please let us know if you received the link and are able to download the files.

Thanks!

Luiz
