Mail not working after 17.3 update

I updated my phone (11) to 17.3 the other day and since then the mail app no longer send/receives or shows emails more recent than 1/11. When I go to settings > mail > accounts I see my email accounts but they are grayed out and I am

unable to click on them. They are completely inactive. There isn’t even an option to delete. Also, when I go into settings the very first item at the top with my name, Apple ID, iCloud, media etc is gray out and inactive as well.

I have turned my phone off and on several times to no avail. This is a HUGE problem and more than an inconvenience.

Has anyone else had this issue and luck fixing it?

as an aside a lot of my contacts are now coming up just as their phone numbers and not their names in calls and texts. Anyone else?

Hello meredithdo,

I'm unsure as to the reason why Mail is not working correctly but the issue with the grayed out settings (Apple ID and mail accounts) is probably due to the screen time settings. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > "Account Changes" and allow account changes.

Hello - my wife and I are both having similar problems with email on our iPads and iPhones. After deleting my email accounts on iPad and iPhone, and reinstating them, I can now receive … but I can’t send emails on these devices. Quite why this is happening is beyond me but appears to be something to do with the ‘outgoing’ mail server. I have checked that webmail is working ok, so I am told that the problem must be with Apple. I’ve had several extremely frustrating and stressful days trying to resolve this, and at the very least it’s good to know that we are not the only ones having this problem. Obviously any help from Apple would be useful. Thanks, Colin
