iPhone not detected in restore mode

I manage iPhones for my organization, and about a month ago, I started having issues connecting to iTunes to restore. To wipe devices, I usually place them in recovery mode and connect to iTunes to trigger a restore and update.

The iPhones are no longer detected by iTunes on my computer. Other users in my group have no issues. I'm sure it's an issue with the iTunes installation on my computer, but I've uninstalled all Apple software and reinstalled iTunes multiple times with no improvement.

There are 3 entries in Windows Device Manager whenever I connect an iPhone that is in recovery mode.

  • Apple Mobile Device USB Device
  • Apple Mobile Device USB Device
  • Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Composite Device

If I reboot the phone and let it boot normally, two entries appear in Device Manager.

  • Apple Mobile Device USB Composite Device
  • Apple Mobile Device USB Device

iTunes successfully detects the phones at this point, but if I click either the Restore iPhone or the Check for Update button, it opens a File Explorer window looking for a .ipsw file.

Can someone please assist in getting the iTunes installation on my computer to work correctly with iPhones again?
