Airtag Not Reachable

Could not connect with AirTags after replacing batteries. Turns out not all 2032 Lithium Coin Batteries are created equal. Who knew!? I bought a pack of Duracell from Costco. One needs to buy the ones (same number) that indicate on the package that they are compatible with AirTags. Found this video that explains how to fix the issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4_9lrPxh0E

Thanks, but Apple has been telling us to not use replacement batteries with bitterant coating for some time now. However, the linked video does help those who have already purchased these batteries and how they still can be used with the AirTags. I'm sure that will be helpful to them.

  • Keep batteries away from children. To further discourage accidental ingestion, use a bitterant-coated CR2032 battery, like the Duracell 2032 Lithium Coin Battery with Bitter Coating. Look for packaging that states "Compatible with Apple AirTag". Some CR2032 batteries with bitterant coatings might not work with AirTag or other battery-powered products.

Hmm, I'm surprised that the Apple Support folks did not refer you to the support article I provided you. That's very concerning as this issue has been around for awhile. As you seen, that article even calls out those Duracell batteries.

Regardless, thanks for providing your experience and what you did to remedy it. Again, this should help others coming across the same issue.
