I used to be able to watch a YouTube video without the screen dimming. Since installing Sonoma, when on battery, the screen dims after about 30 seconds and then goes to black about 10 seconds later. Here are my display settings.

Because of your post I searched for sleep and discovered a new section in settings titled "Lock Screen" (How long has that been there?) It appears that "turn display off on battery when inactive" might do the trick. Why has the Apple user interface become unfriendly since Steve Jobs passed away. They now have two locations where you adjust screen settings namely Lock Screen and Displays. The Mac OS is a mess now!

Thank you for that info. I am a longtime Mac user and it never occurred to look under 'Lock Screen' as the option should be more intuitively under Energy Saver (previous preference) or Display (now a setting). Even a search in Settings did not send me to 'Lock Screen'. I agree ... Mac OS is becoming a mess.
