macOS Monterey screen saver not working, screen stays bright forever and not locking after certain minutes

My MacBook does not automatically show a screen saver anymore after a long time of being inactive. I tried to change the setting to lock screen after 1-2 minutes and show screen saver after 1-2 minutes as well and they never worked. I also tried to change to different screen savers to see if they worked but they did not either.

Last time, my MacBook stays bright for the whole night and it drained all of my batteries. Please show me a way to fix this issue.

Hello HollyDuong,

Try selecting a different screen saver, particularly one of the included ones like "Flurry". Then, try clicking on the "Hot Corners" button in the lower-right corner of the Desktop & Screen Saver window, and check to see that none here are set to disable the screen saver.

Then head to System Preferences > Battery > Battery (or choose Power Adapter instead, if the Mac is plugged in). Drag the 'Turn display off after' slider to 15 minutes. Manually quit out of any apps that are open after that, holding Command-Option-Esc to bring up the Force Quit screen can help with closing any that are open.

Then, try leaving the Mac idle for the time you've set to have the Screen Saver start at, and see if that comes on as expected.

If things still didn't start as normal, try launching the Mac in safe mode, and see if it works there as expected, as that helps to isolate further. This page can help with using safe mode, if needed: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Cheers.
