Unable to sync Apple Music library/playlists between devices (error code: 18004)

I recently bought an iPhone 15 Pro, replacing an iPhone 12. Since then I have been unable to have Apple Music sync properly between my devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC-web-based). On my PC I acces Apple Music in the web-based version - used to work flawlessly before getting my new iPhone. My former iPhone 12 have been erased, reset and sold off, following Apples own guideline for this process. I don't use iTunes on any of my devices.

On my iPhone:

  • All playlists are visible, but contains NO songs

On my iPad:

  • All playlists and songs are visible (as it used to be)

On my Mac:

  • No playlists are visible
  • I receive the following message, when attempting to sync library: "Genius results can’t be updated right now. An unknown error occurred (18004)."

I have done/tried and double-checked the following:

  • Updated to latest software
  • Signed out, and signed in again (apple ID)
  • Toggled "Sync Library" off/on multiple times (set to ON, on all devices)
  • Shut off all devices, multiple times
  • Reviewed my payment method (still active)

I have searched the web, tried numerous "fixes" and repeated this countless times, but the problem persists.

If this frustrating problem isn't fixed soon, I see no option than cancelling my subscription and going back to Spotify.

PLEASE help.

I have had the same problem since getting an iPhone 15... I was able to login to Apple Music in the Chrome browser as it doesnt try to redirect to the app and see my library and playlists there, but nowhere else. After a few weeks going back and forth with apple support they said basically that they thought that the only thing to do is to totally wipe my library and start over as it has somehow cached everything in my iTunes library and therefore registers as being too may songs to sync... might be the same problem you are having. I would suggest that you mention it to support and see what they can see on the back end.

Hey Kenno94,

I just wanted to let you know that I (and many others) have the same problem. I already tried EVERYTHING (I even deleted my hard drive and installed the OS again). Even the Apple Support couldn't help me.

I found out that it is a problem at Apple. It has nothing to do with your devices. The problem should be fixed on your iPhone (At least mine is fixed). If not, the reason may be the country you are living in. the 18004 problem has been around since October 2023 and Apple is still working on resolving it I guess. How long it takes? Who knows...

Oh, the Web version of Apple Music should be working. So it is a workaround for the Mac (for now).

I hope that this information is helpful for you.
