AirPrint not printing on different sized paper after updating to 17.1.1

For my work I frequently need to print on various sizes of paper. I would usually select the paper size I need in the print settings and the document would automatically enlarge/reduce and print on the paper I selected.

I just updated to 17.1.1 and since then this has changed. Now no matter what paper size I select to print to, the document is printed in the default paper size (A4). (I have wasted so much paper thinking I simply forgot to change the paper size!)

I have an older iPad that is locked to iOS 14 and printing in this way still works on it, so I know it is not a problem with the printer.

I print address labels with Dymo label printer 320. I use a Raspberry Pi as an AirPrint server with CUPS software. This set up has worked for some years until I updated to iOS 17. I managed to print Christmas card labels this year by using my wife’s iPad which was still on iOS 16.

I am now on ios17.3 on iPad and have reinstalled new Raspian image with latest CUPS. I have restarted my router, iPad and Pi multiple times. I see other people have had problems since the update which have sometimes been resolved by updating printer firmware and re-starting, but my size problem continues. Only 3 1/2 x 4 inch; 5 x 6 inch; A5; A4; letter sizes offered.

To reiterate. There is no sensible size option for my labels in AirPrint. iOS sees the printer, and can print, but with only tiny lettering.

Further information and a work around:

I notice that whatever paper size option I choose, the print size remains the same - tiny and unusable.

I tried this workaround:

Instead of selecting Airprint from the address label app. I used the share option to attach a pdf to an email which I then send to myself. I then selected the pdf attachment and tried to AirPrint from the email. The paper size options are the same, but when I select different paper sizes the print size is adjusting. Selecting 3 1/2 x 5 inch the print size is bigger. The label prints out ok. I found this workaround allows selection and printing of multiple labels. Saving the output to the files app seems to work similarly.

Maybe someone with similar issues can use this information for a workaround. I still think this is a bug in iOS 17. Anyone with an Apple device has paid a large sum for it. Apple should fix it, or at least be more helpful.
