How can I transfer my books from iBooks to Google play books? They are all books that I purchased and uploaded to iBooks but now I can't take them out again. All the forums I looked at seem to require multiple third party apps and a fair amount of computer know-how, does this mean that Apple has basically stolen all of my privately purchased reading material and is now holding it hostage?
I'm on a mac, I already found that link but that directory is empty. My books are apparently stored in my icloud, I can find them if I do a search on my computer but I can't access them... If I click on them they open in iBooks, if I move them to try to import them into Calibre so I can put them on my new device it just comes up with an error message. I found a different thread saying I had to change the extension to .zip then use at least 2 different 3rd party apps to transfer them into Calibre, which I'm not happy about, it shouldn't be that complicated! The files themselves show up as .epub on my computer but when I investigate further they are actually epub.something.icloud files that are not recognised, cannot be exported and cannot be converted.

When I do this and try to upload it to Google Drive (so that I can access the files on an ereader), it gives me a whole FOLDER of items, even though when I drag it from Books it very clearly shows a .epub file. And I can't do anything with that folder. And there isn't an .epub file inside of it. lol.

Did you purchase your books from Apple's Book Store? Such Books can normally only be read on Apple's Books app, which is only available on Apple devices. If you need to read books on a Windows or Android device, you need to buy them elsewhere. Amazon books can be read on Apple devices using the Kindle app.
No, I bought them from various places, a lot before I had any Apple devices, I only have a few I bought from Apple. I can't transfer any of them to my new device, understandable maybe but annoying for the ones bought from Apple and infuriating for the other ones, which is why I feel Apple has stolen them!
For starters you should be able to drag them from Finder onto the desktop which will remove them from Books.
Are your books sitting on a Mac or on an iphone/ipad?

I can do that, they all appear as booktitle.epub-unknown.icloud and I can't do anything with them, so I'm in the same position as before.
I just tried dragging a free book (Swift Programming Guide) directly out of the Books app in Ventura onto the desktop and got an .epub file I can work with. What happens when you try that?
