Workout App no elevation gain. Phone activity no data.

Hello

My Apple Watch suddenly stopped recording elevation gain on all workouts in the workout app in September. The elevation gain on my iPhones fitness app in the summary has disappeared too. Elevation gain just shows - - for every workout. This is important to me as I use it to track my elevation when I cycle outdoors.

I’ve tried everything, repairing the watch, checked location services etc. this is my last effort to get help from the community! I’ve included images of my issue.

It’s annoying because I cycle alot and elevation gained is good information to have. I too get a map and graph after a workout but not during or in summary.

My understanding is the elevation gain feature uses GPS data to determine the gain. The altimeter measures barometric pressure to determine altitude.

Does the GPS plot your path for various workouts?

Hello.

I did not manage to resolve it, I was in contact with an Apple engineer and got nowhere and eventually communication broke down. I still have the same watch and it still does not display altitude gained on the watch itself during a workout or in the summary in my phone afterwards. I think I’m going to have to get a new watch at some point :(

My understanding is that elevation gain feature requires you take you iPhone 6 or newer on the rides. If the paired iPhone is on the workout, elevation gained will be displayed in the Workout Summary.

Apple Watch Ultra and Ultra 2 may be able to calculate elevation gain without an iPhone, but I can’t confirm. Maybe another community member can confirm.

Got it to work! The only change I made was to turn on Fitness Tracking. Settings - Privacy and Security- Motion and Fitness and toggle on Fitness Tracking. Altitude gain even showed in my Fitness App summary.

I thought I needed the fitness tracking only if I wasn’t using a fitness watch.

I’m wondering if you ever resolved this problem? I’ve had same issue on my Apple Watch 5. Tried resetting, unpairing, checking location services. Altimeter works but no altitude gain measured.

I do get a map of my bike ride or hike with min and max elevation but not elevation gain. I’m getting the impression it’s either a quick fix - location permissions- or no fix😢

I’m glad you got it to work!

Sadly on my side that did not resolve the issue. I’d tried it already and double checked after seeing your reply here again and my fitness tracking is on.
