Because my feeling is that the option to cap it at 80% was added to make people who like to micromanage their batteries feel like they're doing something. And because I'd much rather have my phone at 100% charge in the morning when I get up and not have to worry about charging it again for longer.
Batteries are consumables. If they die in 36 months rather than 34, is it really that much of a difference? Why inconvienence yourself to get just a small amount more life from the battery? It's like keeping the good dishes only for company you never have rather than enjoying them yourself.
