apple tv remote mute and volume buttons dont work
ive tried to restart the remote as well but it wont work. any ideas on how to fix this?

it controls the mute and volume using hdmi cec Consumer Electronics Control - Wikipedia
it needs to be supported by the tv and to be enabled on the tv
if it used to work then if it was me then I would try pulling the plug on the tv and see if that helps and maybe
disable hdmi-cec on the tv and then reneable it maybe after having pulled the plug on the tv in between
