New internet link replaces current tab instead of creating a new

I run macOS latest version. I am new to Safari, used Edge before. When clicking on a bookmark in Edge it opens a new tab which is kept until I close it. In Safari it replaces the current link in the tab. I would like an Internet address regardless och opened with a bookmark och manually entered address to be kept in a new tab.

Is this possible?

Did you actually read the content of the Settings window?

Hold the Command key ⌘ when clicking on a link to open it in a new tab.

The descriptions under the check boxes change when you click different boxes. Find a combination that suits you.
