Sonoma broke iCloud Drive as I knew it.
- On my Apple devices I want a cloud Drive to function as a stable place to store files. Unless I click to download a file, it will stay put. If I need one I can click on it and eventually it will open. When I’m done I right click on it and have the option “upload now,” and back it will go—to the cloud, off my device. Since I started using iCloud drive on my MacBook Pro and as far as I can recall on every Apple computer I’ve owned before that one —with optimize turned off this is the way iCloud Drive behaved—not just on my computer but also on my iPad and my phone. Then I upgraded to Sonoma suddenly filed were downloading on their own. Have found my drive with 65 MB free space. I concluded that iCloud Drive was broken. I spoke with four Apple advisors— three senior. None of them understood the problem or how to fix it. Then I spoke with the 5th senior advisor. In a nutshell he told me that what I had been experiencing all those years with iCloud drive was a malfunction and now it was working properly. Wooow. Fortunately it’s still not working properly on my iphone and iPad. Am I being gaslighted? Is there a way to repair iCloud Drive so it malfunctions the way it used to. And if that is not possible can anyone recommend a third party cloud service that will work the way I would like it to?
