trying to send a message using mobile phone number of friend who has an android phone

I have gone to Settings and turned on iMessage. I have also turned on SMS, but I still can't send a message to friend who has an android phone.

iMessage not working for one iPhone user I am unable to send a text using iMessage to my wife's iPhone 12 from my iPhone 12. It is forced to SMS. This is not true for anyone else's iPhone. imessage issues, email not working but phone number is I am able to receive imessages with my phone number, but I have an online friend who is attempting to send me imessages through my email and it is not working. Both my email and phone are selected as options in send/receive in settings. Am I missing something else? -- I've tried deactivating and reactivating imessage and that hasn't helped either.

I’m not receiving text from others and when I send a text it goes out as an iMessage even though their phone is android. How do I correct? iPhone SE 16.6

Report the issue to your phone carrier, SMS is their feature.
