When I try to update some iPhone apps, the App Store requires the password of an apple ID that is no longer functional. It is years old, and I no longer know the password.

Thanks for you response WN, before you answered I tried another approach which worked I'm glad to say. I just deleted the app on my phone, went to the App store and searched for the app, and it simply downloaded the updated version!

Then this is the account logged in to the App Store. Click on the icon on the right top of the App Store to see your Apple ID currently logged in there
After that, try and reset the password at iforgot.apple.com
Can't update frequently used apps on iPhone, as originally downloaded on very old defunked apple ID
