Stolen IPhone says Mark As Lost Pending but still updates location?

So my IPhone 13 was stolen on the 13th at around 5:20 pm. I marked it lost right away but I decided to change the message displayed on the same day at 8:52 pm.

I searched up what pending meant for mark as lost and it said it was because the phone was offline.

But I noticed that the phone was still updating locations while the status was the same (for example: on the picture it says “Yesterday at 5:30 PM,” meaning the 14th at 5:30 PM)

Does this mean that the phone is turned on? If so, why is mark as lost still pending?

The phone can report its location using the find my network even if it is powered off. For the erase to take effect, it must be powered on and connected to a data network. This explains how it can update location without executing the erase command.

The thief is a moron. Contact the police.

Thank you for the screenshot.

Is there a VPN in use?

If so, note that the location is all based on an IP Address. So, if no Cell Data is being used, then it is trying to keep up with the location. So, your best bet, is to select "Erase This Device" (note that all saved data will be gone and non recoverable, if you have no backup of this iPhone).

I do have a VPN downloaded, but I know I wasn’t using it during the time it was stolen. It’s very likely that it is using the location of where the thief is going as before it went to the location on the 14th at 5:30, it had gone to a suburban location of a house.

Nevertheless, I did erase the phone, but it just says that it’s pending because the phone is still offline. Should i be scared of my information getting on the wrong hands?
