Apple Watch Microphone Not Responding (watchOS 10)

After upgrading my Apple Watch 7 and 8 to watchOS 10, the microphone icon doesn't respond after pressing on it. I press it continuously multiple times and for every 10 times I press it, it may work once. This issue occurred right after upgrading to the latest watchOS version. Is this a known issue with the latest software?

I never had a problem with my Apple Watch 7 until the latest update. Now it is difficult to touch the microphone to get it to prepare for speech. Then once I get it to work, sending it is a problem too. Neither one of the touch areas seem to be very sensitive after the iOS update. An y more wisdom?

I mainly use the microphone for its voice dictation capability in iMessage. I've confirmed that dictation is enabled for the Apple Watch. The watchOS is 10.0.1.

When going to iMessage, I noticed that I have to tap at a specific area (towards the top right-ish section of the microphone icon). This was not the case before version 10 of watchOS where it'd simply react by touching the microphone icon.

Hey Everyone, Just wanted to express my frustration about this same (or similar) issue. Ever since the Watch OS 10.3 update every time i click on the microphone icon, for longer or quicker resonses, on my Series 7 . I just keep getting a message that says dictation failed or something along those lines. Very frustrating. Hoping these complaints help bring this issue to light. I’m sure Apple knows already, but hopefully it fast tracks a software patch. 👍🏻😎✌️

OK Thanks, now I know where to test. Voice dictation is not a feature I use a lot so I'm not too familiar with it, but I'm not 100% convinced. Your report seemed to suggest a problem with screen calibration (slightly off the target) but I couldn't reproduce the top-right sensitivity you mentioned. However, I did get a slight impression that I needed more than the expected number of second attempts, as if there was a reduced sensitivity or maybe a delay in looking for a screen tap.

I suggest restart your Apple Watch (reboot is the universal fix for weird behavior) and test again. If you continue to see the same issues please report the bug at Feedback - Watch - Apple

I have not seen any similar reports, so I guess not a known issue.

Where (which app, etc) do you see a microphone icon? I have to guess it is a function of one app or another, but I have been doing online support long enough to know guessing is never the best plan.

Please check which version of WatchOS you are using (Settings app / General / About / Version) The latest general release build is WatchOS 10.0.2, so update if necessary.
