Does iCloud automatically download photos to my new iPhone?

I just bought a new iPhone 15 with 256G storage, and I set it up as a new device.

Also, I have more than 300G photos in my iCloud.

My question is, if I turn on "sync this device" in settings>icloud>photo, will iPhone download all of them until gets itself full??

My goal is to not allow the new phone downloading old photos from iCloud, but I want to turn on "sync" to upload my future photos onto iCloud.

Thanks.

I know it will upload my photos.

My question is, will it download old iCloud photos onto the new phone?

You Need to Enable Photos in iCloud:

Yes. By enabling Photos in iCloud settings, all will upload to iCloud, as long as you have enough iCloud storage space for this. If not enough storage exists, then either transfer these to a computer, or upgrade your iCloud Plan.

On an iPhone:

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Your Name (Top Item)
  3. Tap: iCloud
  4. Tap: Photos so that is is green
  5. Enable: iCloud Photos
