iMac Ventura - after 13.6 update, every startup reports 'You shut down ... because of a problem' error

Now that I updated to Ventura 13.6 several days ago on my iMac, every time I start up I get a popup that says 'You shut down your computer because of a problem' (message image attached). Yet, I shut down normally each time. Something is amiss.

This message appears after I type in my iMac's password and it shows the generic OS desktop background, not the desktop image my usual profile usually shows (of my dogs).

If I boot in Safe Mode, this error does not appear.

I ran an Etrecheck and put it in the Additional Text thingy. But nothing in it seems to point me to a cause for my continuing error. High CPU usage for some apps seems odd, not sure how to debug this or solve it.

I get the same message on start up. You shut down your computer because of a problem. macOS14.0. In addition, the icons get all resized, the mouse pointer gets stupid, the font sizes are changed. It seems that all of the stuff that is supposed to be remembered, is forgotten. This is real annoying. I suspect that it has something to do with the new desktop management thing. Not ready for prime time. how do I go backwards to the good old , tried and true ?

I have not yet upgraded to the new OS 14 at all. I always wait several months for hiccups to be ironed or steamed out before taking the "OS update" plunge. And when I do so, I ALWAYS have at least two recent Time Machine backups of my previous OS version. This is the only way one could back up to a previous OS: have a backup, and restore the backup, ...get your above issues back to what you had.

As far as my initial problem I created this (OS 13.6) thread for, it fixed itself after about one week of it annoying me. A good thing. So I don't know what caused it, nor do I know what happened that it was suddenly fixed. It just stopped happening. Slightly frustrating not knowing, but it's in my rear view mirror.

Good luck with your hiccups. If you upgraded to the new OS and don't have an easy way to restore to your previous OS settings (I'd slap your hand lightly for this and buy you a margarita anyway) you might "simply" go through the new OS's settings for the mouse, fonts, desktop icons, etc., and tweak them back to your liking. This might be less headache (and more forward-moving "friendly") than trying to go backwards? Have a great day.
