imac email app will not connect to rogers/yahoo mail

After about 15 years of using an iMac with its email app I can no longer link to my Rogers/Yahoo mail account. I deleted the account when it stopped working and I have tried many times to re-link the account

When I try to link to the internet account I get a message 'authentication failed'.

I can still sign on to Rogers/Yahoo in my browser and everything works as normal on my iPad and iPhone.

Rogers was no help..'if its working on your iPad, its not our problem'.

The Apple genius bar said this is a known Yahoo problem.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution? Thanks

I had this exact problem. No warning, just couldn't send a mail using Apple Mail. I spent over an hour with Rogers 'help' and got nowhere. I spent over an hour with Apple help and we walked through all possibilities, isolated the issue: Rogers.Yahoo is blocking access to many Apple Mail users.

Why is Rogers cutting off access to Apple Mail clients? Apple says they don't know. Rogers is refusing to provide answers. I have heard that Bell is doing the same thing to Apple Mail clients. Can ANYONE tell us what's going on and why??

I've been going through the same thing.

I started a Discussion about this yesterday.

Here's the link.

I hope it's ok to post the link here.

Rogers in Canada no longer supports Mac d… - Apple Community

FWIW

I've discovered what I think will be doable workaround at least for now.

I set up a Gmail account in such a way that it can send/receive emails from Rogers' servers.

Then I created an Account within the Apple Mail app for Google/Gmail.

And now I can access my Gmail account from within Mail itself rather than using Gmail's web-based portal.

I.e. I'm reading my Rogers emails via Gmail on my Mac using the Mail app.

This also allows me to copy all the emails from my numerous Mail Local Folders where I've been categorizing the various emails into Google folders with the same names.

It's almost like nothing has happened.

This will also allow me to continue using my Rogers email address as I leisurely switch over to using my Gmail address in the future.

A cloud-based email service like Gmail seems to be the smarter way to go forward, so that things like this, and/or my inevitable move to a different provider, don't happen again.
