iPhone 15s listed as compatible with the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter - aren’t.

iPhone 15s are listed as compatible with the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. All of them, not just the Pro and Pro Max. I already have one I use with my Mac Studio, so thought I’d give it a try. When trying it with my iPhone 15 Pro Max, I get: “Cannot Use Thunderbolt Accessory Thunderbolt accessories are not supported on this iPhone”. So is it or isn’t it compatible?

Hi kc1974,

We'd like to share some information found for the adapter. If this is Apple branded via Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple the compatibility does show the iPhone 15. If this is what you use and continue to have this issue, we suggest contacting Apple Support as this would be the best support direction.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

This is weird...I have a Macbook Air M1 (2020) and I have no problem connecting my Thunderbolt 3 cable between my iPhone 15 Pro Max....I felt like it transferred really fast compared to the in-box cable honestly. I am going to run a test later and see if this isn't just in my mind, but I swear it transferred extremely fast for backup, compared to any other USB-C cables I have.

FWIW, a 2020 M1 MacBook Air is equipped with two USB-C type ports. Each of them supports Thunderbolt 3 and USB 4 data transfer rates (up to 40 Gbps)

Using a "Thunderbolt 3" cable on the laptop's end would support that 40Gbps rate, but definitely not at the iPhone 15 Pro Max's end ... which only supports USB 3 @ 10Gbps. That would be the limiting factor.
