Recovery contact is not using iMessage but is

My recovery contact has iMessage on but when I click on him it says he is not using iMessage so cant use him as recovery contact?

Make sure your recovery contact meets all the requirements as mentioned in the resource liked to your post, Set up an account recovery contact:


"What does your recovery contact need?

Your contacts will need an iOS device with iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 or later, or Mac with macOS Monterey or later, and must meet the minimum requirements. Your recovery contacts won't have any access to your account, only the ability to give you a code if you need one. "



If you have followed the steps correctly and you still have the issue, let us know if you get any new alerts or error messages when trying, as those may help us determine what might be causing the issue.


We also recommend restarting your device and keeping it updated as those steps assure you have cleared out any minor software issues and are running the most current version.
