How to customize Email Settings on MacBook Air and iPhone to avoid Google's prioritization

On my Mac and on my iPhone, Google chooses to put some email in an Important folder and does not include it in the All Inboxes folder. How do I stop this?

Today I actually had another gmail message marked Important that also came to my All Inboxes folder. So it seems to be random. Never a good thing!

That's why it doesn't work well in an email client app. The app is designed to use IMAP. Gmail isn't IMAP even though it claims to pretend to be. It can never pretend well enough because it doesn't have folders, but Labels, and messages can be tagged with multiple labels. So a message that is in multiple folders doesn't make any sense in IMAP. You end up with lots of goofiness.

Hi, I was having the same issue but I've figured out how to make the column appear. Navigate to settings in Gmail and make sure IMAP is enabled.

Once IMAP was enabled the column appeared for me and I was able to toggle off 'Show in IMAP' for my Important and Starred inbox. They have been driving me crazy I'm SO glad I've found a fix. Thanks everyone else for your suggestions!
