Can't preview songs in iTunes store

I cannot preview songs when using my M2 MacBook Air and opening the Music app. The only "fix" I found says to use the preview arrow. That is what I am trying to do but it doesn't work. I am using version 1.3.6.14 of Music.

MacBook Air, macOS 13.5

Hello Mcox47,

Thank you for that information. If you test the issue in a new User, does the issue persist? Follow the steps in this link to create a new User: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support

  1. "On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Users & Groups  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click the Add Account button below the list of users on the right (you may be asked to enter your password.)
  3. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user.
    • Administrator: An administrator can add and manage other users, install apps, and change settings. The new user you create when you first set up your Mac is an administrator. Your Mac can have multiple administrators. You can create new ones, and convert standard users to administrators. Don’t set up automatic login for an administrator. If you do, someone could simply restart your Mac and gain access with administrator privileges. To keep your Mac secure, don’t share administrator names and passwords.
    • Standard: Standard users are set up by an administrator. Standard users can install apps and change their own settings, but can’t add other users or change other users’ settings.
    • Sharing Only: Sharing-only users can access shared files remotely, but can’t log in to the computer or change settings. To give the user permission to access your shared files or screen, you may need to change options in File Sharing, Screen Sharing, or Remote Management settings. See Set up file sharing and Share the screen of another Mac.

For more information about the options for each type of user, click the Help button in the lower-left corner of the dialog.

4.Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.

5.Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.

6.Click Create User.

7.Depending on the type of user you create, you can also do any of the following:

    • For an administrator, select “Allow user to administer this computer.”
    • Select “Allow user to reset password using Apple ID.” To use this option, the user must have set up iCloud on this Mac. However, this option isn’t available if FileVault is turned on and set to allow the user to reset their password at startup using their Apple ID.
    • Use Sharing settings to specify whether the user can share your files and share your screen."

Cheers!

Greetings Mcox47,

To help resolve issues that may be related to the software, let's have you check for an update to macOS. Check out those steps here: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

Use Software Update

To check for new software, open Software Update. It's in System Settings (or System Preferences), which you can open from the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen:
* Choose Apple menu  > System Settings. Click General on the left side of the System Settings window, then click Software Update on the right.
* Or choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Software Update.

Additionally, test the behavior while your Mac is started in safe mode. Starting up in safe mode will check and fix issues related to the disk that may help. See those steps here: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode
1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
2. Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
3. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
4. Select a volume.
5. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
6. The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Let us know if the issue remains after taking the above steps.

Kind regards.

No this link does not help. I can buy tunes I just can't use the preview function to listen to the sound clip. I have always been able to hear enough of the song to make a buy or no buy decision. That feature is no longer working for me.

When I click the icon to play the clip it "activates" but does not play and does not move the play indication slide. Moving it manually has no effect.
