IPhone Notifications Suddenly Too Loud

I’m on iOS 16.6 (20G75). I’ve updated to the latest iOS version. All of the sudden, my iPhone notifications are extremely loud even though my notification volume is turned down. I’ve tried turning on and off the “change notifications with volume” button. I’ve tried changing the notification tones to see if that would help. I’ve turned my phone off and on. Nothing has helped. It will go silent when I turn on the silent button, but I need to hear notifications—just not so loudly. Please help. Thanks!
