How do I add my MacBook Air to iCloud?

I can't seem to add my MacBook Air to my iCloud storage and I have had the computer for about 8 years. Do I need to just purchase a new MacBook Air?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.6

Hi there!

Are you signed into iCloud on your Mac: Sign in with your Apple ID - Apple Support? What do you see when you try to sign in, or what happens when you try to access iCloud?

Also, let us know what model your Mac is and what version of macOS you’re using. The simplest way to find out is About This Mac, available by choosing About This Mac from the Apple menu  in the upper-left corner of your screen.
