Time zone support for Reminders
I need help figuring out how to manage my reminders when changing time zones.
In theory, if your Apple devices are set to update the date/time automatically based on your location, then any reminder in the Reminders app will adapt to the time zone you are in. So for example, if you create a reminder to do something at 9am in Pacific Time, when you go to the Eastern time zone, the reminder should appear at 9am Eastern. This is described by SravanKrA in this post, Leanne_68 here and many others.
However, this isn't happening for me. Despite the fact that all three of my new-ish Apple devices are running the latest software and all are set to update date/time automatically, all of my reminders seem to be time-fixed, ie, they stay tied to the timezone they were created in. That means that while I'm traveling, reminders for things I need to do through the day, like take medications, are appearing at the wrong times.
The best solution I've found is from Sidney San Martín from 7 years ago. Sidney created a very helpful and detailed description of exporting reminders to the desktop, then editing the code to make them float (a.k.a. not tied to a time zone) and re-importing them. Very clever, and yet time-intensive if you have a number of these reminders.
Does anyone have any updated advice that's simple and streamlined? I'm really asking for my phone to do something it's supposed to do natively but isn't, which doesn't seem like it should require a hack.
Thanks in advance for any input.
