I have a SSD 8TB I want to use on my iMac 2017 Intel.
Connected via USB. I can not se it on the desktop but in the Disk utility I can see it but not possible to get it on the desktop. I get a error message 49244,
(com.apple.Disk Management.dis enter-error 49244.).
The SSD is formatted with EXFAT. If I try to format to Mac format it crashes totally.
Anyone who can explain ? Is it to big or ?

You need to Click on the small "View" box and select "Show all Devices"
Select the whole drive that is listed as "Media" in the Sidebar
Erase and Format as per > Erase and reformat a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support
If you can not do that because the External SSD is Incompatible or Locked, then Return that SSD and get a different External SSD.

I have mail them and get the answer that macOS is not for this drive. In the commercial they say all op systems.
I have been in contact with a senior support from Apple who say it must be possible to get the stick to work on Mac.
I also want to know what the error code stand for.

What brand and model is the SSD?
Have you contacted the manufacturer's customer support to see why you can't format it for a Mac?
Click on the small View box and select Show all Devices.
Select the first or whole drive listed in the Sidebar, then Erase and Format.
As I mentioned, I tried to format but the SSD crashed. I can also say that the SSD works fine on a PC but Mac do not accept.
If you can return the drive for a full refund consider an external SSD from OWC (MacSales.com). They do have European outlets and websites.
