When I press command, shift and 5 tp take a screen grab by moving the highlighted area it will not move as a whole or even as separate lines? can take the photo but cant move highlighted area to where I want it to? iMac mini all up to date.

When you press command shift 5, uncheck "Remember Last Selection" from the Options menu.

Try Command Shift 4, select a start position, then hold and drag out from there.
Done that. When I then press the command, shift and 5 it does nothing. I then press the mouse and it shows a small highlighted circle. I then cant expand that?
Once you change the setting, press the esc key then press command shift 5 again. Once you make a selection, you cannot move it.
