My wife's Airbook, which is 2 years old, keeps dropping the wifi connection both in my house and in my son's house, saying "no IP address." The only way I can get it to connect is to reboot the router, which is a pain. We have 2 iPhones, a desktop Mac, and an iPad. None of these devices have any issues with our wifi system. There is clearly something wrong with the settings or the hardware in the laptop.
Any ideas?

With Wi-Fi connection issues on the MacBook Air, your wife can follow the steps below to get this fixed:
Restart your Mac
Restarting might help because your Mac then automatically renews the internet address it was assigned when joining the Wi-Fi network. Or you can renew the IP address manually. This is known as renewing the DHCP lease. If the lease expired and the address is already in use by another device, your Mac is assigned a new address.
Check date and time and update macOS
Make sure that the date and time are set correctly on your Mac.
If you can connect to the internet from a different Wi-Fi network, connect to that network and then update macOS on your Mac.
Check VPN or other security software
If you installed VPN or other software that monitors or interacts with your network connections, that software could be affecting access to the internet. Learn about network issues related to VPN and other software.

Thanks, but restarting didn't help. The date and time were correct. No VPN or other software was present. However, she was one OS behind on her software updates. I installed the latest update for her.
In the meantime, rebooting my router before the OS update did reconnect her. Time will tell if the OS update solves the issue.
