Thanks for that. After much time I ended up with Apple support. Initially they told me it should work but after some discussion they now tell me iwatch 7 will only work with iphone 8 running ios 16. This is contrary to all their online advice so others be aware.

While iOS 15 should theoretically be compatible with the Apple Watch Series 7, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check iOS Version: First, make sure your iPhone 7 is running the latest version of iOS 15. Sometimes, updates with bug fixes and compatibility improvements are released after the initial iOS version. To check for updates, go to Settings > General> Software Update on your iPhone.
2. Apple Watch Support: Double-check if the Apple Watch Series 7 is officially supported with the iPhone 7. While iOS 15 is expected to support the Series 7, there could be specific requirements that aren't met by older iPhone models like the iPhone 7.
3. Restart Devices: Try restarting both your iPhone 7 and the new Apple Watch Series 7. Sometimes, a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues.
4. Reset Bluetooth Settings: On your iPhone, you can reset the Bluetooth settings to clear any potential connection problems. Go to Settings> General> Reset> Reset Network Settings. Please note that this will reset all network-related settings, including Wi-Fi passwords, so you'll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi networks afterward.
5. Check Watch Software: It's possible that the Apple Watch Series 7 requires a specific version of watchOS to work with iOS 15. Make sure your new watch is running the latest available version of watchOS compatible with your iPhone 7.
6. Contact Apple Support: If none of the above steps work, it's recommended to reach out to Apple Support for assistance.
Remember that technology can sometimes be finicky, and even with the best efforts, there may be unforeseen compatibility issues. Apple Support should be able to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information to help you get your devices working together.
