Update iTunes without Windows Store / Restore iPad

iTunes - AppleHi,

I'm trying to reset an iPad using iTunes on Windows 10.

As this is a Windows computer of my company, there is no Windows Store installed (forbidden by policy). I downloaded the latest iTunes version (12.10.11) from here and installed it.

If I try to restore the iPad there is a message that I have to update my iTunes.

Clicking on "?"-> "search for updates" brings me to this site, where it says I have to download from Microsoft Store. But I can't.

How to solve this problem? Is there really no way to have an up-to-date iTunes without the Microsoft Store?

How am I supposed to restore the iPad without the updated iTunes?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

iTunes 12.10.11.2 is the last (and most recent) version of iTunes that can be installed on Windows 7 (or Windows 8) PCs.

If there is (and you use) the Check for Updates option on the Help menu:

but you then see a message telling you that This version of iTunes (12.10.11) is the current version:

that suggests that your work computer is actually Windows 7 because the latest version of iTunes (on the day of writing this) is 12.12.9.4 (as you can see from the screenshot). Note the difference in version numbers:

  1. the message you see (12.10.11)
  2. the version shown in the screenshot of my PC's version (12.12.9)

If the Help menu does not have a Check for Updates option (which - from what you've told us, I believe is unlikely) then you have the Microsoft Store version, which updates automatically. However, I suspect that the Microsoft store version cannot be installed on Windows 7 machines.

So if your work computer is a Windows 7 machine, but the iPad requires a later version of iTunes than a Windows 7 machine can use, then you can't manage the iPad using that old version of iTunes.

That said, you should be able to Reset the iPad simply by powering it off, then on again. However, if you mean Restore the iPad, that does require iTunes.
