Using a lightning to usb adapter with my ipad

hi all

I have an apple ipad 5th generation.

I can see on the apple store ( and elsewhere ) that you can buy a lightning to usb adapter unit.

If I buy one would I be able to add a usb stick to the adapter and watch video/tv that is stord on the usb on my ipad ?

I spoke to apple customer care and they said NO

I typed with apple customer care and they said YES

If the answer is yes..how do I find the adapter on my ipad ??

Windows, Windows 10

if it works then it should show up under the files app

i got a usb-c sd card reader with 2 sd card slots and they show up separately as two volumes in the files app when connected, I havent tried to put a video file on it and attempted to play it, and I don't know if usb-c ipads offer more support in such manners then older ipads
