Frequent passcode request on Iphone

I have my first iphone and started with just the passcode for security. After multiple suggestions to finish my security set-up, I added face recognition - which requires more hands-on action (to secure the orientation of the phone in front of my face.) As soon as I activated face recognition, I had to not only hold the phone a certain way to detect my face, but follow it up with the passcode. These are required frequently and are very inconvenient (as when I'm driving and using the phone GPS or answering a "hands-off" call) where requiring face and passcode authorizations is dangerous. I looked at some Youtube hacks, but they mainly deal with Apple I D passWORD changes. I've tried turning off the face recognition and changing my passcode, as one hack suggested, but nothing changed in the frequency of passcode requests. Please advise on how to get my phone back to the way it used to be - using only the passcode to unlock it, and not requiring multiple "unclock" requests per hour. Thanks.

It seems to me some of what you’re experiencing may be centered around two-factor authentication. Have you turned that on? You absolutely should be using it. (Perhaps you had no choice but to use it when you set up your device.)

Check Settings > [your name] > Password & Security > Two-Factor Authentication.
