Apple Watch 8 entering passcode on its own

Purchased a series 8 brand new from a large retailer a few days ago. Watch worked great for the first day. I noticed yesterday that the watch face kept minimizing and showing an edit option for the watch face as if it someone was trying to change the watch face.

Today, after an update (thought it could be an update issue), it started trying to enter my passcode. I was not doing this or touching the watch, it was automatically trying to enter a passcode, getting it wrong, then locking the the watch due to password attempts.

Anyone experience the same or know what’s going on?
