Mac Studio USB Ports not Working

I have an M1 Max mac studio. The USB ports on the rear have stopped working, as well as the thunderbolt ports on the front. They are not appearing in System Information. Can this be fixed or do I need to return the machine and replace it?

I purchased a Mac Studio a few days ago. Initially it was fine. Two days later peripherals connected to the USB A ports starting not being recognised or intermittently losing power (eg a Streamdeck controller flickered). I rang Apple support and they agreed to send a replacement which should arrive in a couple of days but I’m paranoid now given the number of cases of port failure I’ve discovered on the net. It does relieve me somewhat of any suspicion that something I did lead to the failure. Unlikely given the only change I made between it working and not working was to change the security settings to allow control over app extensions.

The Mac studio is fairly new, and some of the complaints posted on the internet may be be from the very first units ever shipped. It is also easy to make the mistake that the person posting is competent.

It is very easy to prove (or dis-prove) ANY assertion -- if all you use is internet searches. By that measure, the earth is flat, as 'earth flat' produces 865,000 hits on a google search.
