Thunderbolt ports stopped working after Mac Mini (M1) was upgraded from Monterey to Ventura
I have a Mac Mini with an Apple Silicon M1 chip which has two Thunderbolt ports which stopped working after upgrading to macOS Ventura. I have tried booting the Mini into DFU mode to attempt a restore/revive and downgrade the OS/firmware, but when connected to another Mac it is not recognized by the Configurator app. Additionally, the same Thunderbolt ports work when connected to a CalDigit dock, so I am assuming this has something to do with power delivery and not data transfer.
After some digging, it looks like this issue may be somewhat common for this hardware but not for the MacBooks with the M1 chip. After comparing the logic boards for both of these form factors, I noticed they both use the same Intel X041F272 JHL8040R chips for Thunderbolt, but they use different USB power delivery chips. The MacBooks from that generation use a Ti TPS65982 for this, but the Minis use the Ti CD3218B12 for which I cannot find any Ti documentation. The only other reference I can find to this second Ti chip is in another Apple product, the MPX module.
I am hoping Apple can provide some insight into whether this issue was related to these unique USB PD chips and what course of action one would be able to take to remediate the issue provided that is the case.
