How do I get photos that I've imported from an SLR camera into my Library?

How do I get photos that I've imported from an SLR camera into my Library? They are in Imports, but not in Library. I've tried dragging them in, but that doesn't work, and there's no option to copy and paste. The "Add to" function only allows me to add to an Album or a Project.

When you are seeing the photos already in Imports, they are in the library, but they may be sorted under a different date than you are expecting.

You may want to try the following:

  • Ctrl-click or right click one of the photos in Imports, then use the command "Show in All Photos".

Does this reveal the photos in the library? If not, you may need to wait a bit, until the syncing with iCloud has been finished. Sometimes Photos needs a bit longer to update the "Library" section after a recent import.
