Remember Playback Position Not Working on iPhone 13 Apple Music, only on Mac Apple Music

Isn't the "Remember Playback Position" under Options in iTunes/Apple Music supposed to be there so you can pick up where you left off on a song? Doesn't seem to work anymore - at least not on iPhone after I've synced it. Works on Mac but who listens to music on their Mac. I almost exclusively use iPhone to listen to music and I have many 2-4 hr mixes. I don't want it to always start at the beginning. From looking at threads this has apparently been an issue for at least 7 years and nobody at Apple is bothering to fix it.

Why would you even comment that ? The question is CRISTAL CLEAR and everyone who will arrive here come from the same disappointment that iOS doesn't respect the iCloud music library "remember playback position" on songs.

Since upgrading to Sonoma, this doesn't work well on my local files on Apple Music. sometimes restarts from the beginning, other times pick up from the SAME spot of the song (X). If i play the song to a different spot (Y), it still reverts to the spot (X).

I listen to a lot of my own DJ sets which are 2-3 hours and this feature is crucial !

Hello tysonbravo,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. When you right click a song on iTunes/Apple Music on Mac or PC, you get the ability to select "Get Info" which allows you to view options such as "Remember Playback Position". However, this option isn't available on the Music app on iOS. All adjustable settings for this app can be found by going to Settings > Music. You can also long press a song in Apple Music to display options: Play Next, Share Song, View Full Lyrics, Show Album, etc.

An an FYI this was finally fixed in iOS 17.5 you just have to disable it on MacOS, play the track, then turn it back on again and it takes until your next cloud sync to update the songs settings if you have cloud sync turned in for your music library. The same goes for custom start and stop times. The feature had been broken for years and syncing over USB was the ONLY way to make it work, but now if you edit the start or stop times by 1 second in Mac OS for each song in Apple Music the new time will preserve across all devices. I believe the problem had always been the transition from iTunes to Apple music ignored custom metadata stored in an iTunes.xml file. Syncing over USB was the only way that iTunes file would transfer between devices (going back to the iPod days). When Apple launched iCloud sync for music libraries they now store custom track play times in a new file location and it’s not until you edit those times on MacOS that the functionality is re-registered. The thing that still annoys me is that you need MacOS for these very basic features of Apple Music. iPadOS isn’t capable of the most basic tasks in Apple Music.
