FCP Disconnection

Frustration plus!! Using FCP 10.6.6 on an iMac running IOS 13.4.1 with FCP library on an external SSD. Normally all is good. Today I am finalising a 30 minute documentary shot in 4 K so the files are large. I accidentally removed the SSD from the iMac during a major render operation. A silly mistake. FCP now will not stop rapidly and reapply rendering for past 30 minutes with no outcome. I tried exporting the doco file twice only for it to fail each time. See screen shot below. I have copied just the library without content under a different name to the SSD and have not touched it yet. I inspected the FCP backup files and have found (I think) the library backup for my last editing session from last night. I have not opened it. The odd thing is that all the backup files have incorrect dates.

After weeks of work I am concerned that I have corrupted the main library file. The FCP content files seem fine. I would very much appreciate how I can recover the situation with minimal risk. Many thanks. Mike

Sounds like a corrupt render file.

You can try deleting the Render files in the Project and re-render.

Also you may be able to track down the issue by finding out if anything is weird in the Timeline of the Project.

Use FCPro Preferences to set the Timeline to Frames and dial in 39781.

Opening an FCPro backup will give you a time stamped file that will mimic the Timeline at the time of creation. You can use this file as long as the original media is available. It is not the Original Project, so the original will not be harmed.

To delete render files: select the library in the browser sidebar, and go to File->Delete Generated Library Files...

Check All Render Files and confirm.

As a nice side effect, you will probably also recover a big chunk of disk space.

Render files are generated by the application, and can be regenerated if and when necessary. Sometimes a render file can get corrupted, and cause serious issues, which might well be what is happening here. Fingers crossed.
