How to stop Music App from automatically opening on MacBook after iPhone calls

After each call on iPhone (13 pro) the Music app pops up on my MacBook (Pro, Monterey).

This is an obvious bug, since I never use Music app at all (I would happily delete it, if possible).

There is no logic to start the Music app on laptop when I hang up a basic call on iphone. Or any other app that has not been opened before.

To be clear: I wasn't listening Music on iPhone. I wasn't listening Music on Macbook. I just work in silence, answer a call on the phone and when I hang up the Music app pops up. Also, it happens for years! In the mean time, I've restarted the computer, the phone, updated OS several times and I've changed the phone!

What I want: To stop this illogic behaviour.

And bonus: I want to be able to delete the Music App is useless, primitive and intruding. Yeah, I know "it's part of OS" .. really?

I don't think this is specific to calls on other devices.

In my case I have bluetooth headset connected to BOTH mac and phone...and my phone is android, not iphone.

When I hang up a call on my phone, apple music app opens on the mac.

So at least in my case, this is something related to bluetooth device availability switching...ie when the call ends the bluetooth device becomes available for the mac to use again for audio and this triggers the auto-opening of apple music.

FWIW, when I initially turn on the bluetooth headset and it connects to the mac, apple music doesn't open. So this is just some bug in apple music related to bluetooth where it thinks I want to start playing music.

Super annoying. If the devs can't fix these kind of bugs, they need to at least provide a kill switch so I can say: "NEVER auto-start apple music". I don't use apple music, I don't want to use apple music...and popping up apple music when I don't want it just further cements my negative feelings towards the app/service.

Had the Same problem, solved by going onto settings (on iphone) :

Phone > Calls on other devices (under calls subheading) > turn off

Correct as of IOS 17.2.1

Bosh. No more music. This does however disconnect your phone from your laptop, so if you want to still have calls come through then this will be no help. apologies.

Side rant. I also share your hatred for not being able to delete apple music. App store exists so if my heart ever so desires to reinstall apple music I can.

Hey there Cod.LI,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

We want to help you get this resolved as it certainly sounds like behavior we wouldn't expect to see. One thing that comes to mind is checking if you have settings in place to allow you to make and receive phone calls on your Mac from your iPhone. This shouldn't cause the behavior you're seeing but it may help isolate the issue if you disable it and test to see if the issue occurs again.

Here is how you can do that:

1. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular.
2. If your iPhone has Dual SIM, choose a line (below SIMs).
3. Do any of the following:
* Tap Calls on Other Devices, turn on Allow Calls on Other Devices, then choose the devices on which you’d like to make and receive calls.
* This allows other devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID to make and receive calls when they’re nearby your iPhone and connected to Wi-Fi.
* Tap Wi-Fi Calling, then turn on Add Wi-Fi Calling For Other Devices.
* This allows other devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID to make and receive calls even when your iPhone isn’t nearby.
8. On your other devices, do the following:
* On your iPad or iPod touch: Go to Settings > FaceTime, then turn on FaceTime and Calls from iPhone. If you’re asked, turn on Wi-Fi Calling.
* On your Mac: Open FaceTime, choose FaceTime > Preferences > Settings, then select Calls from iPhone. If an Upgrade to Wi-Fi Calling button appears, click it, then follow the instructions.

The info above can be found here: Allow phone calls on your iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support. We've highlighted the most relevant sections in bold and underlined text to make it easy to find these settings on your iPhone and your Mac. Essentially, we want you to pull up those settings and make sure that this feature is not enabled for your Mac. Once you do that, test the issue again and see if the Music app opens up after you end a call on your iPhone.

We hope that this information is helpful.

Have a great day!
