Getting a message about my optimum email “the IMAP server mail.optimum.net does not support password authentication, please check your setting and try again.”

Hello! I am receiving this message when i am trying to fix my email not sending or receiving emails. It keeps telling me that the server does not support password authentication. How do i fix this?

By reporting the issue to your mail provider and looking at their help site.

Cannot get mail - the mail server mail.optimum.net is not responding. Verify that you have entered correct account information in mail settings.


This message was corrected with the software update prior to the 16.7. Once 16.7 update occurred the message began reappearing and mail was not accessible on iphone 14. Apple tech says it’s an optimum issue; optimum premiere tech group says it’s a carrier issue; carrier says it’s an apple software issue. Given that it was once corrected then recurred with software update- maybe apple can correct issue again.
