I have IOS 16.5 on an iPhone 8 Plus. The phone says I have 971 duplicate contacts. When I view the duplicates, then tap "Merge All" and then confirm "Merge Duplicates" I see a note just below "My Card" that says
"Merging Duplicates" with the little spinning circle to the right of it. Within seconds the screen returns me to 971 Duplicates Found. The contacts never merge. Can you help?

If you've followed the process from Get rid of duplicate contacts on iPhone for those contacts and the concern continues after updating iOS (a new version released today), try restarting your iPhone to see if the result changes.
If not, contact Apple Support to have this matter investigated further.
