MacBook Air M1 screen

I noticed some faint lines on the screen of my MacBook Air in November of 2022. I just realised one day that I was struggling to decipher text at the edge of the screen and that there were faint horizontal lines along the bottom and right hand side of the screen. These gradually got brighter and started to creep further across the screen. I called my tech insurance but as of august laptops weren’t covered. I said it could have happened in august as I was completely unaware of any event that had led to this. No joy. By February the screen had 2 hairline cracks visible inside and the screen had stopped working. I visited an apple Genius Bar and a guy got it working temporarily. By April could see the cracks much more distinctly and the aux inlet doesn’t work. I am an artist and only use the computer rarely for admin and regularly for listening to music. So I stopped using the laptop altogether. The screen is now not responding again and has a huge spiral crack in it. I have been aware that there is a class action lawsuit in the US brought by many with similar problems. Defective screens not resulting from any incident. I have recently been made aware that I have consumer rights that would replace the laptop but first this needs to be recognised as a manufacturing defect. Which this obviously is. Anybody got any advice? I can’t afford to buy a new laptop and desperately need it intermittently for work. Aaaaargh

You need to have Apple do a hands-on evaluation. Physical damage cannot be dealt with here and it sounds like your graphics card is failing.

If it is, and you're not cover by any warranty, the cost will be yours to pay. But at this point just have Apple look at it.

Any class action lawsuit settlement may or may not cover the full cost to repair. It all depends on the final settlement terms.
