Orange dot microphone indicator on external display when audio input is active

Since macOS Monterey, when using any application that can receive audio input, an orange dot appears on the internal display AND all external displays connected to the Mac.

As an audiovisual artist that heavily relies on the ability to route audio between applications and external audio sources to generate visuals and project these in real time during live audiovisual performances, this renders my current Macbook Pro and any Mac that runs on macOS Monterey or later completely useless for this type of work.

Just imagine going to a theater and seeing a bright orange dot in the top right corner of the screen for the entirety of the show to understand what kind of impact this microphone indicator has on audiovisual art and installations.

There are many artists and performers that are affected by this. Multiple threads have been opened about this issue, it has been covered by multiple websites, including CDM and MacRumors, but Apple has not responded to these concerns, and workarounds have been pushed back and made increasingly difficult by later updates to macOS.

Up till this new “feature”, as an audiovisual artist, Macs have been a near perfect companion for use in my field of art. Like many artists, I’ve been using Macs for many years for these purposes. All these years, for me macOS has offered the best balance between performance, functionality and workflow requirements for audiovisual art. But with this silly new "privacy" feature, the entire Mac ecosystem has suddenly become worth as much as a brick for real time audiovisual art and installations.

Is there any chance this issue will be resolved in the near future? Because if not, I will have no other choice but to abandon Apple for my creative endeavors.
